Listen now | Scary Parenting is John Rosemond's alternative to gentle parenting, which ought to be called dumb-as-nails parenting. Scary parents don't give a Rhett Butler what their children think of them, for example. It's very liberating, actually. You really ought to give it a try.
It's true! You really cannot give them even a minute! My lateness policy for my high schoolers is thus: if you arrive in my classroom after the bell has stopped ringing (it tolls ten times), you are late. I do not care if the clock still reads 10:00 (the published starting time), because the bell has finished ringing, and I have started class. Once a couple of students receive detentions for this infraction, compliance goes up considerably.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my "scary parenting" podcast. I appreciate your comments and feedback. You're right! When teens realize you mean what you say, they (usually) fall in line. Thanks again!
Thank you, John, for your valuable insight - which is classic but seems so foreign by today’s (lack of) standards.
