A mom tells me her six-year-old son, impulsive (duh!), when he does something wrong—plays too rough with his three-year-old brother, for example—always says he didn’t mean it. Mom asks if that is perhaps true or is her son simply trying to avoid accepting responsibility for his actions. If the former, then should she punish, and if not, what?
