“Addiction seems to be a psychological and biochemical predisposition some are born with” (Holman W. Jenkins, Jr., “The Hunter Biden Show,” The Wall Street Journal, June 12, 2024).

This is not about Holman W. Jenkins, Jr., by the way. It’s about the ubiquitous belief that addictions are matters of genetics, biochemistry, neurology—in short, biology; that one is born with an “addictive personality,” for example.
