I recently received an email from a self-appointed “expert” on children’s learning and educational issues (see Notes at the end of this Substack) which set forth 10 points for parents to follow when they help their children with homework. Just to give a sense of the 10 points, one of them was “Know Your Child’s Learning Style.” Another is “Consider Hiring a Tutor.” What an unmitigated crock!
Because pure, stinky junk (I actually wanted to call it something even less polite, but my mother’s voice prevailed) of this sort is the parenting advice norm on the Internet, and being that I seem to be one of only two parenting pundits in the world who possesses common sense (and I don’t know who the other one is), I have decided to do my civic duty and provide parents with 5 alternative points for them to follow when it comes to helping children with homework.
