Truth is a paradox. It is ultimately a good thing, but being the recipient of truth is often accompanied, at least initially, by much discomfort and denial.
A messenger of truth, furthermore, often exposes himself to disdain, derision, disrespect, and disparagement. (I’m getting hung up on d-words, I realize. Alliteration is one of many outlets for my OCD.)
I’ve been telling people the truth about attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, commonly known as ADHD, for going on since the mid-1980s—forty years, give or take—during which I’ve experienced, first-hand, much disdain, etc. That’s the price one sometimes pays for telling people what they don’t want to hear, especially when what they don’t want to hear involves untoward economic consequences.
